Browns Lane Wood was created with The National Forest in 2012 and 2013 comprising of traditional grassland and new woodland totalling 32.3 hectares. Planting 28000 trees using a mixture of broadleaved tree species making the wood diverse and multi-functional.
Part of the grassland has been planted at wide spacing with individual standard trees to create a parkland feature. A new pond has been created and an area of traditional grassland created for the benefit of wildflower species. Rare native black poplar have been planted to help preserve this species.
Owl and bat boxes have been placed in established trees and it is hoped that they will be occupied. Native bluebells have been planted to enhance the overall look of the wood.
Over 2 miles of new walkways have been created for people to walk around and enjoy the outdoors. Our Benches and tables have been placed for people to have a breather or to just sit and enjoy the view.
A information hut has been built on top of Jerusalem Hill with one of our tables and a bench providing an ideal viewing platform to look down at the new woodland to watch as it grows and look out at the surrounding counties.
